Tasks:Your character is the production director at a boutique advertising agency in New York City, New York, and is in charge of new media initiatives with seven full-time employees and two interns. The team is on the cutting edge of new digital advertising platforms that are targeted to individuals based on their tastes and affinities. Their clients pay a premium price to be the beneficiaries of these resources. A senior level executive of a global firm that is about to launch a bold new product online approached one of the interns at a party. The senior executive knew where the intern worked and for whom she worked. Knowing that the young intern was fairly naive, he pumped the intern for information on the team’s initiatives. The intern was happy to oblige since this was a social setting. The information provided by the intern was very valuable since it revealed that the senior executive’s competitors were planning on launching competing products soon. A month later the senior executive called your character to set up a meeting, ostensibly to talk about an advertising campaign. At the meeting the senior executive surprised the character by telling him about the encounter with the intern and the information provided. The senior executive was willing to give your character an account that would be the firm’s largest to date (effectively tripling the firm’s billable base), but only if your character would somehow delay the advertising platform roll-outs of his competitors. If your character didn’t agree to this, the senior executive would conveniently leak the conversation with the intern to your character’s major clients (the senior exec’s competitors) and to your character’s senior partners (your character’s bosses).
Your character is now in a quandary. If the terms are accepted it will go against your character’s principles and there will always be leverage that could be used against your character at any time in the future. If the terms are not accepted, there will be plenty of damage because the intern did indeed reveal confidential information. There is also the pressure of the amount of money the new account represents for the boutique advertising shop. This situation needs to be handled quickly and deftly. Part B In 500 words or less, explain how your group would have dealt with the situation. Scenario Five Part A Your character is the manager of a recently hired new BA. The manager has received complaints that the new employee has missed due dates and is not showing enough leadership while gathering requirements. The project sponsor and project manager are concerned. The manager needs to meet with the BA, but realizes that the BA is undergoing a steep learning curve given that they are new to both the company and the BA field. The company is in the middle of a merger, and the BA is helping with the implementation of the ERP project. To be successful, the BA must provide leadership in gathering the necessary requirements and modelling to-be processes. Because many of the workers know they will be laid-off at the end of the ERP project, morale is very low and little cooperation. The warehouse and purchasing staff ignore requests and challenge the BAs authority in meetings. Key project stakeholders are resigning from the company on a weekly basis. The manager needs to meet with the BA and help in any way possible. The manager wants to hear the BAs ideas on how to proceed and turn this situation around. What will your character do? What ideas will the BA give?
