An effective title of a paper should give readers a quick overview of the subject and problem addressed in the policy paper. A reader may use the title in deciding whether to read the paper or not. As a general rule, avoid titles of more than 10 words. Executive Summary of the brief (e.g. what type of health policy is being evaluated (legislative, regulatory or organisational), what level of health policy is being evaluated (local, state, national description of the health issue, why it is a problem, intended audience, overview of challenges, and its recommendations, etc.). Critique of the brief: Select, outline, and present evidence to provide a comprehensive and concise foundation for the health policies final recommendations, and include these four (4) key elements: An explanation of why this health policy issue, is one which government action (legislative, judicial, executive) or government monies should (or should not) be spent to help resolve the problem? (i.e. what is the extent of the problem? Use literature, grey literature such as media releases etc., and data such as cost to healthcare, quality of life, forecasting future trends etc.). An evaluation of challenges to addressing the issue (e.g. conflicts between stakeholders, opposing polices). Identification of possible options or interventions available to the decision maker. A compelling recommendation for action (e.g. reasons for or against this policy being implemented 0r continued). Referencing: Use and cite at least ten (10) appropriate, contemporary peer reviewed and scholarly literature to support your argument and provide a reference list at the end of the policy brief in APA 6 format.
