virtualhighschool eng3u english historical context

Paragraph One: Write an introduction in min. 6 sentences. Provide either a historical context, definition of a certain concept and a summary of the story. Try to keep the balance of your paragraph in the same balance as the story. The last sentence of your paragraph should contain a statement of the central lesson/theme. This statement is important because it will provide the focus for all your analysis in paragraphs two through five (3 main points). This is also known as your thesis and should be the last sentence of your introduction. Paragraphs two through four: choose any THREE of the following items: (each body paragraph will cover one choice) write a description of the setting of the story and tell why the setting is important (you might want the words atmosphere or suspense) write an analysis of the main character and what you have learned about him/her describe the use of foreshadowing in the story and give good examples show how the narrative point of view is important to the impact of the story discuss the use of irony in the story, giving good example of it choose several interesting words and phrases the writer uses and talk about how the writers vocabulary makes the story interesting tell why the title of the story is well- chosen and appropriate (witty? symbolic?) compare this story to any other we have read as a class or to one of the other stories in the choices in this exercise make a general theme statement and then make specific references to the story to back up your statement (what is the author saying about the way life is and the way people are?) Note: Everything you write should be linked to the basic statement you make about the story in your first paragraph. In this way, your entire analysis will be well-reinforced and unified. Paragraph five: Restate your thesis and summarize the points you made in your body paragraphs. End with a general insight, lesson, or moral that you learned from reading the story.
