At the request of the compliance manager, your department has been recommended for an internal audit. A quick review of your procedures shows deficiencies in your department’s way of collecting data. In an effort to get ready for the upcoming audit, you need to become familiar with the steps that are involved in preparing for an audit. Choose from the following 2 subjects, and then address all of requirements listed under it:

Credentialing/Recredentialing

The managed care organization has asked you to put together a spreadsheet that shows a comparison between 3 diseases that are impacting 3 different countries. Because your department will be coming up for an accreditation performance review, this is a good time to start to evaluate data. In recent years, studies have indicated an increase in overall rates for cancer, HIV/AIDS, and obesity.

Use the library, textbook, and the Web site for the World Health Organization (WHO) to research and explain why there is such a profound change in these countries during the time span. Prepare a PowerPoint presentation of 8–10 slides as well as an Excel spreadsheet that does the following:

• Compare data from the United States, Canada, and Cuba.
• Analyze obesity, cancer, and HIV/AIDS in these countries.
• Data should be viewed from 2008 to 2010.
• Calculate the percentage of change from one year to the next.
• Provide an explanation for the changes from 2008–2010.

Part 2

Your department has taken the lead in developing many styles of reports. This work has raised a few questions throughout the organization. Therefore, you have been asked to present some helpful information on the structure of reporting. In addition, draft a memo that explains the guidelines to follow when creating a memo for reporting purposes.

• Explain the advantages and disadvantages of using spreadsheets to display information in reporting.
• Explain which of the following are the best graphs to use in this situation, and why:
  • Tables
  • Pie charts
  • Line graphs
  • Bar graphs
• Incorporate at least 1 chart or graph that demonstrates when it is appropriate to use one chart or graph over another.
