Take Home Midterm Instructions & Notes

As this is a take-home exam, you are more than welcome to use your text, notes, and all resources provided within the course Blackboard page. You’re also more than welcome to ask me questions!

What are the rules?

·
You are not allowed to use any other resources (e.g., classmates, former students, other faculty, friends, internet, etc.).

·
Answers should include content from the class lectures, class group work, or text. There are correct and incorrect answers. Incorrect answers or answers missing vital information will have points deducted.

·
I expect your essay answers to be in paragraph form with careful attention made to editing your answers. I do not want to see lists or bullet points in your answers! I expect you to write out a grammatically correct and clear essay answer. I will grade for grammar as well. Thus, you may seek out help from writing tutors for help with grammar and writing.

·
All answers should be in your own words. I have let you use the text as a reference and nothing more. I do not want to see definitions taken straight out of the text or any articles. Instead, I want you to explain the concept to me. This includes definitions. Please note that quoted information may not count toward answering the question(s) or toward your grade. Any plagiarism will earn a 0 for the exam.

·
Overall, I will be looking for complete answers. I have given you the convenience of typing these essays over several full days. Thus, I expect to see that extra time reflected in your answers (within reason). While skimpy answers will receive very skimpy points in return, there’s no need to go completely overboard either. It’s all within reason. Simply demonstrate that you understand the material, and be sure to answer all of the different points within each question. If you’re unsure about this, ask me. I’m happy to clarify.

How do I complete the exam?

The midterm exam will be available at 10:45am on Thursday, 9/21. When you are ready to begin, simply click on the Midterm exam link. You will then need to download the Word document. You will use this Word document to complete your midterm. You need only type in your answers below each question. Do not delete the actual question and do not change the formatting (including the font). The space for the answer will continue to grow as you type. Be sure to save your work as you work on it! You only need to answer 6 of the available 7 essay questions. You can choose the 6 you wish to answer.

Once you are finished, you should simply save the document as a Word document with the file name as your first initial, hyphen, last name, hyphen, and 3480midterm. For example, Bob Smith would save his file as “b-smith-3480midterm.doc”. Then, you should submit the document to the assignment link provided below (
Midterm Submission). This will submit your paper through the Turn It In plagiarism checker. You will have the chance to review any information flagged for plagiarism and redo your work (if needed) up until the final deadline.
