HSE 303 Week 5 Writing Assignment
For this assignment, consider the following:
In a one full page response, spend some time googling news clips of local, state, national or international disasters and find examples of the issues surrounding media involvement in disasters (e.g., types of stories covered, myths and exaggerations, problems generated, role of the media in disasters, etc.). You may wish to explore media reports regarding a situation that illustrates some unique issues in terms of anti-social behavior (e.g., looting, shooting, rapes, etc.) and the assignment of blame at the local, state, and federal levels.
You are not required to include a cover page or reference page for this assignment. On a Word document, simply write one page (300 words) where you evaluate one disaster and the media coverage of that disaster. We have had several issues take place since the Katrina incident discussed in Week 3 (think of the civil unrest over the last decade, or several major tornadoes and hurricanes). What else can you come up with here?
Even though no reference page is required, include a list of links to articles or information located to help you write your paper.
Be sure to proofread your paper and correct any typos before submission.
