The main purpose and focus of this study is to come up with one of the best ways of teaching different mathematics concepts to young and developing children. The new methods of teaching will assist the involved youths at their early ages in developing their basic concepts of adding, subtracting and numerical counting as well as other related mathematics concepts. While conducting the research, the main goal will be aimed at meeting the needs of the young scholars in achieving what they are supposed to achieve in the subject (Costello, 2003).
Explanation of Problem
There are a number of reasons that have pushed for selecting this topic. The reasons have been obtained from continuous observations made by determining the performance portrayed by different children in the subject of mathematics (Costello, 2003). The interesting in helping those children who demonstrated limited skills in mathematics pushed for this topic. Most of the students that I came across showed to lack basic motivation to tackle any task or even worse complete any of the assigned tasks.
Population
The population of study was made up of a daily class that was made up of a total of six students, one teacher and one assistant. Two of the six students are at age ten, one of the students is at age six, two of the remaining children are at age nine and the last student is at age eight. As such, all the involved students were attending a Montessori learning institution and the two-ten year old students will be attending their sixth grade hence their need to leave their school and attend a different one. The school head teacher has been involved in teaching and other related activities for the last fifteen years. In the coarse of these years, the head master has been involved in a lot of reading leading to her acquiring a degree and conducting a lot of research. The main reason as to why the research s focusing on those children aged between six and ten and their mathematical learning is to focus on the different ways in which these kids can improve on their ways of understanding mathematics concepts. The population is important for the study since the kids are still in their developmental stages thus being the appropriate candidates for the research.
Research Questions
Some of the questions that will help in carrying out the research are as follows.
What are some of the areas that you find difficult while studying mathematics?
What do you think should be done by the teacher to make the subject interesting and simple?
Teaching and Learning
The idea involves both teaching and learning as all the involved parties contribute significantly towards the success of the subject. The teachers determine the attitude of the students towards them while the students determine their attitude towards the subject (Costello, 2003). As such, it would be better to know from both sides that will definitely lead to some improvements.
Locus of Control
My idea is within the locus of control as the determinants of the study can easily be learned and appropriate mechanisms developed to improve on how they perceive the subject. As such, it is considered a general thing that if well implemented, the Idea will definitely lead to great improvements.
Passion
My idea is something that has culminated from the experience that I have had as a teacher. As part of the system, I found out that different students had different attitudes towards the subject and this affected their performance on the subject greatly. As a result, the passion of getting the students perform better pushed for this idea.
Inspiration
There are different ways in which people are inspired to do things. Additionally, there are things that push for people to get inspiration to do something great in the society that will definitely change the society. It is the pride of every parent teacher and almost every person in the society to see students excelling in their studies (In Reid, et al., 2014). The motivation that the individual students get from the society plays a big role in making them change their perception about a subject and improve in the performance. Seeing students transform their performance is all what inspires me to do this.
