You are to select any two of the following case studies presented. Each written assignment should be about 1,300 words.
The basic counselling skills, including attending and influencing skills that you can incorporate in your repertoire especially in relation to helping or counselling people with these specific client issues should be included.
You will be required to draw up a counselling plan for the case studies chosen. You need not adhere to a specific counselling or treatment plan format and are free to construct your own that fits the details of the case studies that you have chosen. You are to imagine that you are going to be the counsellor of the individual in this case study, and that you have just started work as a professional counsellor.
Read the following case studies and develop an appropriate counselling plan addressing relevant details from the case study. The treatment plan should highlight any urgent or special considerations. Then specify, step by step, what action you would take to support each individual, including referral to other professionals as appropriate.
Marks will be allocated to the questions in approximately proportions. Make sure you include your own analysis and considered reflection, where required by stating things in your own words.

Case study 1: Margaret
Margaret Rozario is a 64 year old widow with a 26 year old son. Her husband had passed away about 6 months ago from a sudden heart attack. Margaret had recently witnessed an elderly woman being robbed in broad daylight as she was going home from the market. Since then she is scared of going out alone and will go out only if she is accompanied by her son or someone else. She also reports dizzy spells, sweats, shakiness and a feeling of unable to breathe. These episodes last for about 10-15 minutes before she calms down. She sleeps more now and finds it difficult to get up in the mornings. She also thinks of her husband more now and cries quietly to herself. She sometimes thinks that there is nothing to live for now that her husband is gone. Margaret used to be an active member of her church but stopped going to church since her husbands sudden death.
Case study 2: David
David Lim is a 42 year old senior marketing manager in a pharmaceutical company. He work long hours, usually 7am to 9pm most nights and will take home work. David speaks rapidly and always looks like he is in a hurry. He regularly works on the weekends. He has a wife and 2 small children. His wife does not work so that she can take care of the kids. His wife complains that he hardly has time for the family and when he is with them, he is impatient and easily agitated. David suffers from headaches quite frequently. He has seen a doctor and the doctor had stated that there is nothing physically wrong with hi. The doctor has suggested that he needs to slow down and take a break from work every now and then. David takes over-the-counter medication daily for his headaches to help him relieve the pain.
Case study 3: Raj
Raj broke up with his girlfriend of 1 year, Shania. Raj drinks and is presently drinking more often. He gets drunk at least twice a week. Raj is 21 years old and commencing his first year of university. Three months after breaking up with Shania, Raj went steady with Harmeet who is also in her first year of university. Harmeet is now complaining that Raj is increasingly becoming possessive in their relationship after they have gone steady.
