Scholarly research is configured by using reliable sources with proper citation and formatting in your writing. This kind of research involves using approved books, journals, videos, and other media that have foundational evidence to their statements or data. We use this kind of research in school to provide accurate evidence to claims you make yourself. I have previously done scholarly research on a variety of subjects. In my high school English class we would have to provide primary and secondary sources for our weekly essays which was my first true form of scholarly research. I have also done a couple research papers in my biology classes in college. While scholarly research is important in every subject, science has been where I have used and valued its methods. Regardless, thorough and credible research is important in academics because it pushes you to be a critical thinker and produces unique results that are simultaneously accurate!

Good evening everyone and Happy Holiday!

Today is my first time hearing anything about scholarly research. After pursuing some information, I’ve discovered a whole new level of google! It honestly made my day because this can help with so much given how the algorithm is focused based on college research. I don’t have any previous experience using this version but I will definitely be using this in the near future. I could understand the benefit of using this in a academic setting such as a library or barnes & noble, maybe. The resources that would pop up might be in the near proximity for us to use like the books and articles. Thank you Mr Rodgers for sharing this with us.

Scholarly research relies on information provided by experts on a topic. This type of information contains various findings, working theories, and different views. I personally had some experience using scholarly research during this course, and it came in handy when writing my essay for an assignment I was working on. It showed that I did my investigation on the topic. When a student is writing an essay, it is important to have references from the website where the student gathers his/her information. Is also an excellent way to show credibility to your work. Scholarly research can be used to prove or disprove theories. An academic setting is important for clear communication skills in higher education. It helps students engage in critical thinking, have clear ideas, and express their discussion in an intellectual manner. In an academic setting, scholarly research provides factual information for discussion this may help avoid emotional arguments over accepted factual information.

Scholarly research is research that is done on an academic level where you are trying to prove a hypothesis or a point of conjecture. My experience with this kind of research is limited to a few college courses and a paper that I had to write for my Maneuver Senior Leader Course about the Battle of Trenton. It is important to use in a scholarly setting because it is peer-reviewed by the leading experts in the specific fields of study. These journals and articles are written to inform the greater community and be used in the teaching of future generations of experts to follow, sometimes they are used to help push progress forward in a particular area.

The GCU General Education Competencies in its entirety are important to success as a student and beyond. My analysis of the competencies that I believe are best connected to the GCU Mission is found in Global Awareness, Perspectives, Ethics, and Christian Worldview. My analysis of the GCU General Education Competencies shows that I will possess the ability to apply all other aspects therein in both areas as university foundations aid in the establishment of foundations, and effective communication and critical thinking are required to be effective in the areas of the components defined within Global awareness, perspectives, Ethics, and Christian Worldview. These are best connected to the GCU Mission by way of implementation and will lead to my success as a student and beyond in the areas of my becoming an innovative thinker, effective communicator, and global contributor to be a leader doing things to transform and change lives and communities. 

The question I would like to ask is what do you see yourself doing to bring about change?

GCU’s General Education Competencies place a strong emphasis on critical thinking, effective communication, and responsible leadership. These competencies are reflective of the university’s mission. Critical thinking and effective communication are, in my opinion, the competencies that most closely correspond with the GCU mission. The ability to analyze complex problems is fostered by critical thinking and is a cornerstone of GCU’s values. It is also a necessary skill for academic success and moral judgment. Sharing ideas and values, helping others, and leading with purpose all depend on effective communication, which is consistent with GCU’s dedication to building a community of learners.By gaining mastery of these competencies, I will be ready for leadership positions and ethical conundrums after graduation in addition to academic challenges. My career will benefit from my ability to critically assess information, present compelling arguments, and communicate effectively. These abilities will help me make well-informed decisions and positively impact my field and community. These skills are essential to attaining academic success and living up to the leadership and service ideals that GCU instills.
