Question:
PLAGIARISM
Plagiarism is the practice of presenting the thoughts, writings or other output of another or others as original, without acknowledgement of their source(s). All material used to support a piece of work, whether a printed publication or from electronic media, should be appropriately identified and referenced and should not normally be copied directly unless as an acknowledged quote. Text translated into the words of the individual student should in all cases acknowledge the source. For further information please see
Before submitting assignments, you should check through it to ensure that:
all material identified as originally from a previously published source has been properly attributed by the inclusion of an appropriate citation in the text;
direct quotations are marked as such (using quotation marks at the beginning and end of the selected text), and
full details of the reference citations have been included in the list of references (in Harvard format).
NOTE
Coursework received late, without valid reason, will be regarded as a non-submission (NS) and one of your assessment opportunities will be lost.
If the word count of an assessment is considered critical, then this will be reflected in the assessment criteria for that assessment together with any consequent penalties.
Students are encouraged to review their work using the JISC Plagiarism Detection Service (Turnitin).
The University operates a Fit to Sit Policy which means that if you undertake an assessment then you are declaring yourself well enough to do so.
This assignment must be submitted by 1pm BST Tuesday, 18th April 2020
Identify an appropriate organisation BP which is currently facing a major strategic issue and/ or operates in a volatile environment. You will need to have access to company reports and other published material about the organisation and its competitive and macro environment.
(a)With reference to the theory and literature introduced in BSM147, assess and appraise two key strategic paradoxes and tensions facing the organisation. 40% of Assessment 1
(b)Based upon your analysis in section (a), use a SWOT/TOWS approach to develop recommendations which will address the major strategic issues and paradoxes/tensions you have identified. Evaluate the suitability, acceptability and feasibility of your recommendations, including a discussion of the potential consequences intended and unintended of your proposed recommendations. 50% of Assessment 1
A further 10% for CW1 will be allocated for communication, presentation and referencing
Your work should take the form of a management report totalling 2,500 words +/- 10%. You should include a word count. A penalty of 10% will apply for answers that fail to keep within 10% of 2500 words. Use headings, diagrams, brief tables, bullet points if appropriate to illustrate points and to support your arguments. It is expected that your work will contain appendices – ensure that these are relevant and their significance to your argument is clear. Please include no more than 20 pages of Appendix material. The simple reproduction of generic figures and diagrams does not add value – remember, you are the Chief Strategy Officer of this organisation and it is up to you to provide bespoke analysis and justify the validity of your recommendations.
